What does the abandonment wound mean to you?
The abandonment wound is a wound that generally occurs during childhood following the physical or emotional absence of one or both parents. It can also be experienced after the loss of a loved one or a separation. It then manifests itself through characteristic "symptoms" of this wound.
It’s similar to when you have the flu, and you perceive its effects through fever, headaches, etc. The same principle applies to the abandonment wound; it is felt through emotional symptoms (emotional dependency, lack of self-love, fear of being abandoned…).
It also leads those who suffer from it to adopt destructive behaviors that are simply survival mechanisms in response to the symptoms they feel.
The abandonment wound is a deep and very devastating wound that requires special attention. Many people suffering from this wound are not necessarily aware of it.
If you recognize yourself in this definition, it is highly likely that you carry the abandonment wound within you and so, this blog is for you.
However, you may not be sure yet if you are affected by it and in what ways and to what extent it has impacted your life. That’s why I created this questionnaire to help you identify whether you carry the abandonment wound within you and in what aspects of your life it is showing up.
